December 2009

Well so much has happened lately. The semester is over which leaves only one semester left before graduating in May 2010. It is craz to think about, but exciting as well. I need to begin looking for places to work and apply to them... something I never thought would come so soon.

I am home for Christmas break (Until Jan 10th--then I have a winter intensive for Psychology). A lot has happened and I am really enjoying being home. To start, my best friend Laura "got hitched" December 19th! It was a beautiful wedding despite the blizzard that took place that day. I had a great time standing by her side with the other bridesmaids on her special day. Its beautiful to see two people who love and seek the Lord first fall in love with each other. We all had a blast seeing them become one before God and their family.

Welcome to Our Home (:

Well I promised you pictures of our place so here it is!! (:

When you walking through the door, there are photos along the wall on the right. Its a European theme! So all the pictures were taking in either France, Spain, or England (complements of a few friends who traveled there this summer!). To the left, is a coat closet where we keep various things.
Continue walking straight and you will enter the dining room on the left, and to the right is Sarah's room and bathroom (not shown) .
You can see a set of doors in the left of the picture--that's where our washer and dryer is hidden. We have a wall of European snap shots in the dining room too (see picture below).Sarah and I have the wonderful opportunity of putting our kitchen table chairs together (compliments of Walmart).
Next to the dining room is the kitchen. It has a little bar counter for additional seating.
If you are seated at the counter, the living room is right behind you. We are still needing a coffee table and slip cover for our couch. A friend lent us the couch for the year-- such a blessing! The TV stand I put together; we bought it on sale at Target and we love it!
My bed room is directly behind the wall that the couch is up against. Here are a few pictures (:

Here you have my work station (desk), dresser and bed. Next to my bed is my comfy chair-- I call it Giants Stadium because on that blank wall will go pictures of that wonderful team ;)
To the left of the bookcase is my closet--and it is massive! It is the size of my bathroom and then some! I don't even have enough clothes to fill it. I do not think any one SHOULD! Sarah and I joke and say that my closet is the guest room because it is just that big! To the right of the bookcase is my bathroom (:

This is my bathroom! My mom helped me pick everything out when she came down the week I moved in. I love it (:That's everything!! I hoped you liked it! Next post will include pictures from my surprise party, and the baby shower my friend Lindsay and I threw for our friend Brie!! Stay tuned!

One year older & All Moved in (:

I first want to thank everyone for all the phone calls for my birthday! It was greatly appreciated and I loved all of them! It does not feel like I'm 21 yet... but I'm sure it will hit me soon! Sarah picked me up from the airport, and when I walked in the door I found beautiful flowers, balloons, and a card! It was so thoughtful and beautiful. We made breakfast together which I LOVED-- chocolate chip pancakes, baacon, and eggs; you can't beat that. We shall see what the rest of the week holds-- i feel like my roomate has some tricks up her sleeve ;)

I am in Lynchburg officially! My roomate Sarah and I are all moved into to our apartment. There are still a few things we need to get, like our couch and chairs for our table. Apart from that, we are all done! She has been a great friend and roomate; I know its going to be an amazing year for both of us.

There are alot of students living in our complex. Most of them are on sports teams which is pretty cool (: Sarah and I went shopping yesterday and probably bought the whole world-haha! I still have not bought food, so that is on my list for today ( as well as many other things).

Classes started today, but I dont have class on mondays; therefore, today is a free day for me (: Its going to be packed year. By packed I mean campus is going to be filled with a lot of people! At 8am Sarah told me that the main parking lot that commuters park in was almost full!! That, my friends, never happens! We shall see how parking goes for me tomorrow-- Tuesdays and Thursdays are usually the busiest...oy! ;)

I will post pictures soon of the new place!

On the Road Again..

Well. The Summer is drawing to a close, and that means its back to the " 'burg" I go! Its been an interesting summer. Working at Centra State was a great experience. It was good to see how things really happen. Tomorrow 8/15 mom and I will be heading back to VA. We plan to go shopping and get my room at the new apartment situated! I'm excited to reallllly move in (:

Come monday, my roomate Sarah will be joining me. Sarah and I are then going to VA beach for 2 days to soak up the sun and RELAX (something neither one of us has done much of this summer). Im really excited for that!

I will keep this blog updated with pictures of the new place and our VA beach trip when everything is settled. Classes start the 24th-- the day after my 21st bday! This is the last year, everyone. Can you believe it?! SENIOR YEAR ;)

The work world

Well I have officially started as an extern on Oncology. Its going pretty well so far. I was able to see a few different things. Its hard, because on this floor, alot of the patients just need comfort care and comfort for the families. Its been interesting. I go back to work on Thursday, and hopefully it will be a little bit better with working on my skills and stuff. We cant give medications to our patients since we dont have a license to do so. Thats kinda frustrating cause that is the one thing I wanted more experience with. I just need to be more confiendent in what Im doing, and just get the job done--another one of my weakness. All in all, I believe it will be a good experince. The clinical manager said that I may be able to shadow different units for a few hours some days. I think Im going to look into that. When im done with everything, I feel like im standing around wayy to much but as a student I can only do so much.... (:

This weekend, im going to VA to move into my new place!! Im excited! Dad and Reg are going to help and my roomate Sarah is looking to come down that weekend too! Next semester, and next year for that matter is going to be a blast with her!! (:

Oh Orientation..

Well its been almost a month since I have been home. I spent the first few weeks just relaxing and catching up on ever TV show imaginable! ha! Mom and I have joined a gym, and work out together almost 3-4 times a week! Its been fun, and boring too!

As of June 1st alot has happened. I started orientation as a Nurse Extern on Oncology at CentraState Medical Hospital in Freehold, NJ. Its been a good experience so far. There are 15 of us externs and we are all on different units-- some are on the same units together. Im flying solo to Oncology. The past 3 days have consisted of learning protocols and such from 8am to 11:45. Then, we all go to lunch together and talk about how boring the morning was. From 12:30 to 4pm, we have "Extern Orientation" where our teacher goes over various topics in the health care system (most of which we all have learned in school). I have a computer class to take on Thursday so I know how to use the system and to document. On Monday, June 8th I start my first 12 hour shift on Oncology...

and im excited (:

Goodbye Junior year....Hello SENIOR year!

Well...

I PASSED ALL MY JUNIOR CLASSES!!! (:

Which means, this time next year I will be graduating with my BSN in Nursing! Who would have though, huh? So exciting! Thanks for your prayers! I didn't get a B on every one of Nursing finals as I wanted to...but I did well (:

Today, Kelsie and her boyfriend Josh helped me move some of my stuff out of my old house into my friends garage. My room is pretty bare right now. All the pictures of everyone are off the walls...so it looks like a prision! Just a few more things left to pack, however. On Friday, my friend Sarah and I will sign our lease for our new apartment for Senior year, and we are very much excited! Ill keep you all posted about that!!

2 tests left!!

So today's tests went pretty okay. Theology was fairly easy, and Im praying I come away with an A. Medical/Surgical was somewhat of a challenge. Since the information was over the entire semester, studying was a trial. There was SO much information that I had to re-study, along with the new information. I started to second guess myself at the beginning of the exam, but I was eventually able to calm myself down. Overall, I think I did fairly well. Grades for all my tests will be posted Wednesday (:

Tomorrow: Nutrition @ 8am & Maternal/Newborn Nursing @ 3:30pm
then

its all DONE!!!

One Down...4 to go!

My Pharmacology final went...okay i think. It was a very difficult test. The was allot of stress and anxiety while studying. Allot of us Nursing students are just really tired...and ready for it ALL to be over! Grades wont be posted until Tuesday (after we have all our other tests). We will find out then how I did...

Just a few more tests left until Summer (:

Final #1: Pharmacology

So tomorrow...more like in 5 mins considering it is 11:55 as I write this, will be the start of finals week. The nursing students are calling it "Death week". I have 5 finals left! My goal: B's on every one. The tricky thing about that goal is that in Nursing our grading is based on a 7 point scale instead of a 10 point scale. This makes its a little more challenging. Let me make it more clear. An "A" would be a score of 100 to 93, "B" is 85 to 92, and so on.
Here is what the next couple of days look like:
  • Friday May 1st: Pharmacology final at 6pm
  • Saturday: study all day
  • Sunday: day of rest & studying all day
  • Monday: Theology final @ 3pm & Medical Surgical final at 6pm
  • Tuesday: Nutrition final @ 8am & Maternal/Newborn Nursing final at 3pm.
Its a crazy week ahead. However, with your prayers and my hard work, I have faith that I can do it (:

Less than 2 weeks...

Hello All!
I thought it would be a good idea to keep everyone posted with my life here at Liberty through a blog! I will update the blog as new events take place, or something exciting happens! That way, while I'm away at school, you too can be a part of the experience ;)

The semester is ending in less than 2 weeks! Its pretty crazy to know that I will be done with my third year of Nursing school, and graduating May 2010!! Crazy! These next two weeks are quite intense. I have close to eight tests during that time period. This means that majority of my time is dedicated to studying. I am looking forward to May 5th when everything done! It will be sweet (:
